Remove The Emancipation Memorial/Freedman Statue

A Black man on his knees in front of a white man speaks volumes and should be removed.

Seriously why is this a thing? It makes no sense. I wouldn’t be shocked to find out that Lincoln basically viewed this as his role given he was a product of his time, but we are a product of ours and we should do better. Commission a less dehumanizing statue to replace this.

This statue is the prime example of "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" while the intent of the statue may have been a positive idea the image of the statue conveys a negative image of black people needing a white savior.

Thank you, Tory, for doing this. Fixing this problem must be one of many steps towards rectifying the past and promoting justice, equality, and respect. Tory Bullock should run for public office. He obviously works for positive and necessary change which others have missed.

I agree and Lincoln didn’t free the slaves out of thinking they were equal anyway- he did it as a military tactic and perhaps an understanding that slavery was wrong. So let’s get rid of this.

The image is vulgar. If it's to represent freedom the formally enslaved man needs to be standing with shackles broken at his feet next to the president like a human being...like a man.

Having the black man on his knees puts him in a subservient position. Let's remake this statue with the two men standing side by side.

That statue is offensive, and always has been. Imagine Lincoln and a Black man standing side-by-side, shoulder to shoulder? That submissive posture hurts my heart.
