I’ve been disturbed by this statue since first seeing it about 30 years ago. I support its redesign, removal, and/or replacement. The history of how it came to be as well as Frederick Douglas’s response at the time are important parts of the story which should be told in the context of a historical museum setting. I get your idea of a “Dumb Things White People Used to Do” museum but in all seriousness, creating a “Racial Reconciliation Museum” that addressed the many facets of racial injustice throughout US history would be a great goal. I’d be down with working on that.

Why have this statue been in the public eye for so long...it clearly re-inforce a delusional mindset of what people still see is the role of one free man to another. Solely based on the color of one man skill and hair texture. What a seriously intercommunicated idealization of position.

Replace it with a statue of Malcom X

Completely agree with you on this- especially since Lincoln was quite clear that if he could have saved the union without getting emancipation he would have. No need to perpetuate the white savior myth, thank you

I agree, let's see it this is just lip service or something will actually happen. The Black man should being stand, looking eye to eye with Lincoln, confirming to all, that he is a MAN and just as important and dignified, as Lincoln, if not more

It is well past time to remove this cringe-worthy depiction of a white savior. Replace it with art that celebrates black people!
