I think Abe Lincoln should be honoring for all he did to abolish slavery, but this statue does not depict equality and that’s the message that we need right now.

This has to go. Please I walk pass this, it only shows no matter what we do as a black person, we will always be down crushed in many generations to come by white people. It simple you can’t tell me that not what you see. It simply symbolizes that we black people will always be beneath white people. There is no unity there, there has never been such thing. I’ve always wondered what happens when white police men see this statue. Clearly we can see what has motivated them through generations to hurt us black people. We need change, we need a whole different systems where we can all be equal, enough is enough. I can’t step out my own house without thinking there is a 50/50 percent chance I might not come back alive, this is no world to be living with such hatred. This statue must go because new generations will continue to keep seeing this statue and what it stand for despite the history people doesn’t haven’t to read a book or any history to figure out the meaning of it. We need this gone . It been in my heart and I’m sure it has been through my sisters and brothers hearts as well. If you have any empathy you will do what right. God is your witness.

Over the last 10 years Boston has made space for much more contemporary public art from diverse creators. Why not refresh statues such as this with work from a new generation of Boston sculptors?

Let’s send better messages of hope to our children and tourists. Let’s add plaques to new statues that explain why previous images weren’t the right representation. We can’t rewrite history but we should certainly learn from it!

If this statue is supposed to represent freed slaves, he should be standing up next to Lincoln, not on his knees!!

Replace it with a statue embracing equality and make sure the artist of the new statue is Black.
