Didn’t know it existed.. but as soon as I saw this picture.. that was my first thought.. this is horrible.. why is that man on his knees beneath Lincoln? Why not one with them sharing food together or at least a handshake?

This statue must come down. The not so subtle power dynamic does the opposite of what it’s defenders will say. It is blatant visual language by the sculptor to remind Black Americans of “their place,” and its removal is beyond overdue.

Yes! This should be completely re-done! If this is supposed be represent freedom, Lincoln should be embracing the man or shaking his hand.

Lincoln's views on African Americans evolved over time. I know they were still imperfect when he died but I do not believe he would approve of this racist statue. If possible, modify the statue to remove the kneeling man (perhaps replace him with a man standing with the same dignity as Lincoln) or remove it altogether. While I'm not a resident of Boston, I believe we're all in this together.
