Please remove this statue and replace it with something respectful of Black people. While I appreciate Lincoln's role in freeing slaves, I know we can do better. Thank you.

I am keenly aware of the notion that those who forget their history are destined to repeat it. At the same time however I can also see and understand why Black People would find this offensive. If Frederick Douglas was in opposition to this particular statue on its day of installation, that’s good enough for me. I can see no reason why it should not be removed in favor of something more humanizing of Black People. I disagree with the idea of storing it in a “big white warehouse”, as I do not feel it is representative of the majority of present day Black-White relations. Such a move would be equally as racist as the idea of simply leaving it be.
