I agree this statue should be removed from Park Sq and taken to a place where it, and it’s removal, can be provided proper context. It should be replaced with something that more appropriately memorializes emancipation or a different historic figure. I have walked by it for years and thought what an unfortunate image it portrays of both the emancipated slave and of Lincoln.

I grew up in Boston and never knew about this statue until a friend posted on Facebook. The Horror! The original was funded by 17k raised by newly freed slaves. Surely we can honor their legacy better than this! TAKE IT DOWN, switch the heads, melt it down and make something that Black Bostonians can look at with pride!

Take this statue out. Put it in a gallery in a museum, with an info tag stating what it's original purpose was, AND how it came to be considered backward and unbefitting of the purpose it was originally intended to serve. In a museum, the artist's work can be preserved and it's FULL CONTEXT can be explained. Outdoors, in it's place, put up a newly commissioned work BY a POC artist. Boston, my only true home, I know you can do better. Please and thank you.
