I always felt the same way. It always struck a nerve even as a child, it never looked right to me. Why does it look like the man is being pet? I hate this statute and it’s triggering and should be taken down.

I think the museum idea is a good one. If the statues are all displayed somewhere with an explanation of when and why they were made, we can have a conversation about them and learn from our mistakes. If we just throw them all away then we just pretend they never happened...

Hire a black sculptor to make monuments honoring the ideal of freedom and equality, not the "white savior." Honoring the black heroes throughout American history. The same goes for the Shaw Memorial - same problem - white savior on horseback. Put him on the ground, equal with his troops.
