This statue is a piece of US history. It belongs in a museum so that history may not repeat itself, not out in parks or squares. Keeping these types of statues and symbols out like this is applauding horrific, outdated behavior. We know better, let's do better.

Love Tory's suggestion to make a museum of all crazy racism, to show it as a crazy thing of the past as it should be.
You could also open an art contest for local artists to make a new statue to commemorate the event where there is no racist portray of black people.

This is an appalling view of anti-slavery. We know the history we don’t need to be reminded of what was taken from black people in terms of their pride, self-worth, honor, and stature. Let’s find better ways of telling the history of this nation

This statue has always troubled me. I avoid it at all costs. There are many different ways emancipation could be depicted through artistic expression. This is not it.
