Remove the African American memorial from the SC State House
The Confederate flag is a symbol of the heritage of the people of SC. It
is not a symbol of hate for the majority of people. The flag should not
be removed from State grounds just because of the ignorance and hatred
of some disturbed individuals. However, if the SC Legislature votes to
remove the flag anyway, the African American memorial should also be
removed from the State House grounds. To some, this memorial is very
racial and offensive. Both symbols, the Confederate flag and the African
American memorial, are symbols of heritage for most and symbols of race
for a few others. I am starting this petition to show that there should
be equal rights for both white South Carolinians and black South
Carolinians. If the Confederate flag is removed without also removing
the African American memorial, it will show racism by the SC government
against one race over the other. Please sign this petition to ask our
Legislature to remove the African American memorial on SC State grounds
if the Confederate flag is removed.
