That NYU would persist in providing trustee status to anyone who has serially and KNOWINGLY violated the public trust, particularly in a position of such influence, desecrates its sacred mission of educating students and demeans the values of contributors who should expect to have their donations support current and future trustees of knowledge and good citizenship. Should NYU fail in immediately severing all ties with Bartiromo and issuing a statement of apology, condemning her and all she stands for, it will be time for students to organize and prove in the streets of New York the 3.5% rule of change.

If we are to believe that Ms. Bartiromo was not malicious in spreading the Big Lie, then we can only determine that she believes every nonsensical and nightmare worthy word of what was shared with her, in particular by Sidney Powell. Either way, she foments distrust, division and even hate across the country.
Anyone who swallows - hook, line and sinker - information (which she then presented as fact) obtained from "whispers on the wind" and other nonsensical and ethereal means, without making any effort to contact the source (who we hope would have disabused her of her notions) nor made any attempts to verify the information, has absolutely no business on the Board of Trustees at NYU or any other institute of education.
It is confounding she would lie about the maga insurrectionists, stating they were "Democrats in disguise." She clearly had an agenda and her lies served her purpose. What Bartiromo has done and said has caused deep damage to our democracy by undermining our elections. It is not a wound that will be easily healed. She did not do her due diligence, and it appears she never even tried.
She must be removed from the NYU Board of Trustees as soon as possible. She is a disgrace and not a person to be held up as an example for either students or the rest of our country.

In NYU President Hamilton's 8.15.22 letter to the school, he rightly stated that the attack on Salman Rushdie "was an attack on ideas, on institutions that cherish ideas, on intellectual exchange. It strikes right at the heart of the values we hold so dear."
With every appearance on fox, Maria Bartiromo supports the lies from donald trump and his supporters RE the Big Lie. She foments fear and gives credence to unfounded conspiracy theories, and provides a free soapbox to election deniers and those calling for the dismantling of the IRS and FBI.
How can one confuse the outright lying to millions of viewers, night after night, as "support of intellectual exchange?" How can such behavior be construed as supporting "values we hold dear?" Maria Bartiromo CONTRIBUTES to the radicalization that inspired Hadi Matar (Rushdie's attacker) to harm Mr. Rushdie.
There is a line people need to draw in this country - a line between disagreements based on principles and facts, and outright, targeted lies meant to undermine the rule of law and democracy. Maria Bartiromo and her fox cohorts are demonstrably bad-faith actors. Their network is being sued for spreading lies about the election; it is banned in numerous countries and for good reason - its mission is to spread propaganda that is harmful to a functioning democracy.
Maria Bartiromo has no business being on the board of trustees for this university.
