The city finally confirmed they are moving those bike stations away from our front doors. I truly never thought I would be writing this update, but this outcome belongs entirely to all of you who spoke up. Please keep a close watch on the street to make sure the work …

Remove GoBike Stations Installed directly in front of Residents’ HOMES with NO WARNING!!

  1. The City of Oakland awarded a 12-year contract to a 3-year-old, start-up company, Motivate, to install and run a bike share system in the SF Bay Area, including, Oakland and Berkeley.
  2. Motivate, (aka Bikeshare Holdings LLC), is a venture capital backed, start-up company owned by CEO’s and private investors whose primary goal is financial greed, and not smart, community focused, urban planning.
  3. Motivate won this bid in part by promising to involve the community and residentsin the decisions surrounding how the program would be implemented and where the bike stations would be located. But instead, Motivate began installing bike stations in residential areas, directly in front of residents’ homes, without providing notice to directly affected residents. They were not honest in their dealings with residents.
  4. Motivate has also used tactics such as, telling specific residents a bike share station would not be located in front of their home, and then doing so anyway – in a direct attempt to prevent residents from exercising their civic rights to protest to City officials. We have the voicemails to prove it!
  5. Oakland community residents have a right to voice their opinions regarding decisions of where GoBike stations are placed. We have a right to have concerns regarding quality of life, property values and safety heard and considered by City officials. Motivate has already removed stations in front of businesses where they were not notified first. Residents deserve the same option.

Don’t let a Ford GoBike Station appear in front of your home!

TAKE ACTION AND JOIN OUR PETITION TODAY:

  1. Ask Ryan Russo, newly appointed Director of Transportation of Oakland to meet with residents who were not informed of bike stations being placed directly in front of, or adjacent to their homes, and to move the stations to other recommended sites. Shame on the City of Oakland for not taking this step prior to installations!
  2. Require the City of Oakland to implement a process whereby at least 90 days of notice is provided to residents when a Gobike or other bike share station is proposed to be located within 1000 feet of their home; AND publicize a process by which residents can voice their opinions and concerns about planned locations.
  3. Immediately re-locate GoBike station at 5200 Shafter Avenue in Oakland to a commercial location nearby. Residents were not informed of this installation!

I really never imagined this many people would feel the same frustration about the way these stations appeared outside our front doors. This momentum belongs entirely to the residents who spoke up about what is happening on our streets.

I live on this street and can confirm that GoBike did a bait and switch on the neighborhood. They said they were not installing and people stopped organizing against it. The next information we received were the signs announcing no parking in that area for the day of installation.

This is not a business area. If people can’t open a business in this area due to regulations, then this bike business must obey the City regulations as well. What is the difference? What kind of back room deal is going on between this corporation and the City?

The Ford bikes take all the parking away from my neighbor Hood. I work late and I have to park 4 or 5 blocks away from my place at 4 am. My area is not a safe place to be walking that late at night!!!

Very unhappy with the bikes at College Ave and Harwood intersection. They block the crosswalk site line and cars do not see pedestrians. This is affecting shopping. The loss of parking for shoppers and delivery trucks is a problem.

While undecided but generally having favorable feelings re bike chair, I find it an over grab to place this commercial enterprise directly in front of peoples homes. After all, cars can only be legally parked for 3 days-this Permanent eyesore is unfair

There is plenty of room on 51st - two long green belts - between Lawton and Miles. Not in front of any houses and can be placed off the road, so no parking spaces will be used.

The first station they put was on the school side of 21st and international. No notice just started construction. Last month they put a notice in my mail box. I emailed the lady on the notice that i was petitioning the move. as I am the only resident on the other side of the school and they are taking up "5" parking spaces for those stupid bikes. All the correspondent i received was that she was forwarding my email to the city of oakland. I did not hear from anyone else. yesterday 10/22/18 they put cones up stating they are going to start construction 10/23-10/25 no notice just cones.......
