Why do they want to invest in university level students and not invest all this money in post secondary students. In the meeting we were told that it is the syllabus we have in Malta. Then why not change that !!

Students were not advised of such changes in the course upon their entry in the university. In order for us to enter university, a certain level of English had to already be achieved thus I do not understand of such sudden changes. Apart from this, those who have a good grade in their ordinary level but have a lower one in their intermediate level are still obliged to attend such course while others who have only a good grade in their ordinary level are not. At least, in order to be fair, grades should be taken from the same exam level and not everyone's most recent exam of the subject.

I do not believe that the grade of a 2 hour exam could determine our capabilities in English becaus

I know it is important to have good english, but if a person juat cannot understand the language any more why make him/her do something that they do not like. This makes university harder than it already is.

Why inform students during the year and not before?

How is it acceptable that a university student who enters with an O-Level and more in English should do the CELP?

I have no problem with CELP itself if it weren't mandatory. I am very disappointed that we were warned about it too late. Also, it is very unfair that my O-Level and Intermediate qualifications serve no purpose according to the University.

We, as students at the University of Malta are already overblown with our studies. I believe that this CELP will impair us from giving a full commitment to our studies.

I personally think that we should have been informed much earlier than the previous semester about our assigned english classes. If I had known I would have worked harder to get a better grade in my other english exams. This still does not mean that if I obtained the mark that you perceive as 'incompetent' that I cannot speak english. Thank you.

This should have been thought of years earlier & the pass mark of the ordinary level English examination as well as the intermediate and advanced level ones should have been raised, if the intention is to improve our education that is, as claimed to be.

I studied english at A level for two years, I studied hard and I did pass the exam. Whether a student gets an A or a D in an exam, the mark still counts for a pass. In order for a student to pass an English exam the student must know how to communicate in English. So by making me sit for a 2 hour lecture every week for 3 whole semesters is a complete waste of time and money. It makes me feel degraded to be judged as incompetent in a language which I've been speaking since I was four years old just because I got a D in my A level.

This problem shouldn't be addressed to university students but to the poor teaching skills provided by primary and secondary government schools. Apart from that, everyone should do this because it will help EVERYONE. No one ever taught us how to write dissertations, so everyone would benefit from this course. This is discrimination.

This should have been tackled before during A and O levels not now and in the middle of our first year. This is by far not fair on us students as we are already drowing with the ammount of work we have to deal with each semester!!
