In 2016 the Ontario Government created the 'Ontario Electricity Support Program' to help lower the cost of electricity for low income families.

Then on September 12th 2016 Kathleen Wynne announced the 8% tax was being removed from Ontario's electricity bills to again help lower the cost of electricity in Ontario.

Yet starting on January 1st 2017 the Ontario Government's new "cap-and-trade" program will come into effect increasing the cost to heat with natural gas. Effectively the savings the Ontario Government recognizes is needed by struggling Ontario families for electricity will now be spent on heating.

We ask the Ontario Government to act in continuity with it's policy of removing the financial burden from the families who are struggling to put food on the table and pay rent. We also ask that the Ontario Government consider the effect of your decision to start the 'cap and trade' program will have on our children when struggling families are already relying on breakfast programs at their children's school.
