Remove Barbed Wire from Prinsted Bay

Hideous to look at and dangerous in which to become entangled. Perhaps the landowner should adopt a plan B.

Normal, safe fencing is used on all other parts of this public footpath; why use such a hazardous method along this stretch? Who should ensuing Vet bills be forwarded to?

This fencing is dangerous to walkers and dogs. I also think that it could be a danger to life if an individual should stumble and fall onto the barbed wire. It is also an eyesore.

I will raise this matter with my local councillor Jonathan Brown.

This is a hazard and an eye-sore on a beautiful coastal path.

What a dangerous looking fence.

Regularly using this path I am astonished at the lack of compliance with WSCC rules which appear to be ignored by both parties. My horror is that with a husband over 80 he may trip and fall onto the wire and I would be completely unable to restore him to the footpath. It is not that he is unsteady on his feet but everyone knows how a clump of grass or raised stone can catch you unaware.

The use of barbed wire apart from contravening the highways act is dangerous. I wonder if the landowner has considered that should an accident occur, then he is liable. Hopefully his public liability is sufficient to cover any eventualities.

This use of barbed wire seems unecessary and dangerous to people and animals as well as alien to the area.

What a gruesome sight, clearly not done with aesthetics or safety in mind. An utter disgrace. Have some backbone WSCC and remove it.

This type of fence is completely unnecessary in its location. It is a danger to everyone animal and human walking along this stretch of footpath.

So dangerous - for people, especially children & for pets & wildlife.

Why is "Barbed Wire " used ?

Looks ghastly! What a great shame to do that to the coastline. Reminds one of wartime....

Just remove this dangerous fence of barbed wire before a serious injury happensplus it is ugly and contravenes the highway act.

The barbed wire is a Danger to people ,especially small children & dogs, & should be removed immediately.

This fence is dangerous for older people, children and dogs. It is also completely alien to the ANOB within the SSSI area of CHC.

This 'fence' has totally spoilt a beautiful coastal walk. What purpose does it serve other than to potentially snare the walkers, dogs and wildlife who enjoy this place. Whoever owns this land should come to their senses and take it down. Failing that they should be forced to. The Highways Act 1980 Section 164 clearly exists for this purpose and the WSCC should enforce it. Surely a few discrete notices stating that the land is private would prevent people straying off the path and be much more sensitive to the environment. Please share this petition with your contacts and help to get this eyesore removed.

Looks dangerous. Better type is the square holes (don't know name) used at the ridgeway at Avesbury. Nothing can get in & no one gets hurt

I consider that this is a recognised public safety issue and needs to be dealt with by West Sussex County Council under The Highways Act, which states : "Where on land adjoining a highway there is a fence made with barbed wire, or having barbed wire in or on it, and the wire is a nuisance to the highway, a competent authority may by notice served on the occupier of the land require him to abate the nuisance within such time, not being less than one month nor more than 6 months from the date of service of the notice, as may be specified in it. "
