Removal of The National Security Coordinator from office

Gbevlo-Lartey's actions are a threat to democracy in Ghana and to the security of Ghanaians. Keeping him in that office is tantamount to condoning those reprehensible actions.

We cannot return to the days when this kind of "buga-buga" violence tolerated.

Lartey's unrepentant behavior is left over from the past when soldiers bullied civilians because of revolutionary power and a disregard for law and order. It has no place in a forward thinking country. CONCERNED people must say no to such attitude to send a message that we are in a democracy and living by the rule of law. DUE PROCESS is the right and privilege of every citizen.

This sort of nonsense has no place in a forward thinking country where there are laws and avenues of due process.

Itlooks like those with political connections are increasingly becoming more and more unlawful. They make it seem like having political connections makes you above the law. Interestingly enough, I am yet to see any of them being punished by the courts. If that continues, then more and more people will be more than convinced that having political connections makes you above the law.

It is so sad that our democracy has been thrown to the dogs when we have a legal constitution that calls for the ruke of law. Currently, if we are not careful, the Upper West region will soon experienece another Bawku, Yendi, Konkomba Nanumba, Liberia, Sierra leone or Rwnada. Two neighboring communities are fighting over land and the Opinion leaders are looking on. The communities have started demilishing each other's family houses and erecting road blocks yet no Opinion leader or the government officials have condemned the act. Is Ghana really a peaceful and democratic country?

Primitivity and barbarism must end now! Currently there are so many ethnic conflicts in the land and national security has time to demolish toll booths and disrupt private funerals!

Imagine an Officer and a Gentleman, paid with Tax- Payers money speaking sarcasm when the public protests his actions. Is this an act of intimidation or humility?

We are now moving from No Plan mangana to a 'Plan', a petition to remove the National Security Coordinator in this already long thread? I remember seeing this petition somewhere online (FB, I think) and it was substantially criticized. I think the petition is ill-advised and whoever is doing it is just further adding to more bad press for Legon in this whole affair. I suggest the petition be withdrawn. Much as I am an alumnus and support the welfare of the Legon community I don't support this plan, this petition, nor do I support the whole idea of toll booths on the roads into Legon. Most universities that I know of have never been gated-communities or are at least moving away from a gated-community approach, both physically and metaphorically. From all the media writings on the issue Lartey the Security Coordinator acted in accordance with the law to avert a disaster. Policemen/Security officials don't need to go to court to get a permit to avert an emergency security disaster situation. This appears to me a useless petition and the Presidency should ignore it if it gets that far.
