You should be ashamed of yourself for the word “midget” being so popular in your state. Why don’t you come over to the northern east coast where people actually have manners. You want to advocate for BLM, LBGTQ, transgender, etc but yet you let your school be named this?? I really hope your son or daughter or grandchildren are never born with a rare disease that singles you out entirely and to top it off you have people like yourself who make it even worse! Shame on you! Have a great day

This is an outdated, offensive term! Time to change with the times. Would you want your child being called a slang term that means pesky, little sand fly? It's a hurtful word!

Other schools and sports teams have already changed their “midget” team names over the years. You need to do the right thing. Professional baseball and football teams have changed their team names when educated about the harm it causes when continuing to use derogatory names from decades or centuries ago. Imagine yourself as a young boy version of Peter Dinklage from Game of Thrones, Tyrian Lannister. Now imagine having everyone in school think of you negatively whenever the team name is mentioned. It’s a horrible feeling that I have felt personally as a short statured person with dwarfism myself, now 55 years old. The sooner you change this, the sooner you can help everyone heal from the pain and suffering you caused, without even realizing it.

Midget is an outdated, derogatory term. Using this term to represent a place of education and inclusion misrepresents everything schools stand for.

This term has an unkind history (and present) and should not be used as a team name for any sport.

STAND UP MISSISSIPPI and stop your old stereotypes of people with dwarfism! This is a condescending, derogatory, defamatory , cruel words used to describe a person with dwarfism. The sicking term, midget, is yet ANOTHER way society uses its cruel words to harm innocent children... these are people not a side show! It is past time for Mississippi to stop being the freekshow and become respectful human beings!
