Spike barriers have been installed at the terminal building rounding the centre island and outside JHB School of Flying. These spike barriers have already caused damage to many, many vehicles abiding by the rules within the airport, travelling in the correct direction.

As tenants, operators and owners at Rand Airport, we were not advised of this installation, nor was any tenant, operator or owner given the opportunity to oppose the installation. These spike barriers were installed to prevent a head on collision, which has never ever occurred.

The potential danger of the spike barriers in question does not stop at damaged tyres, with the “bumps” and spike barriers installed in this high pedestrian area, there is a very real risk of injury and even death. There have already been several people injured to varying degrees tripping/falling over these bumps in the past, which now have the potential to end impaled on a spike barrier.

These spike barriers must be removed by management immediately.
