Dear Fellow 1L Classmates,

Our first semester has been amazing! We have all grown tremendously, and as we move forward in our studies, it is our shared hope that we all continue to grow and are able to demonstrate proficiency on the Georgia Bar within three years. With that being said, the purpose this petition is to allow our voices to be heard regarding the instruction that we are receiving in our legal writing course. Several of our classmates have received subpar instruction within their legal writing course, specifically those sections instructed by Professor Jennifer Spreng. Many students have spent endless hours investing time into this course without receiving appropriate instruction, guidance, and/or concise and timely feedback. In short, it has been a horrendous experience, and a terrible investment of our time. Additionally, this course is a foundational course and the skills attained are transferrable to our future coursework. Conclusively, we did not get what we needed!

The purpose of this email is to secure an appropriate forum to message to our administrative staff that we would like a remedy for how our grades and performance in this course will be determined. The remedy that we are petitioning for is to have this semester’s course apply as either a PASS or FAIL grade, rather than a numerical grade that would impact our G.P.A. Several of us have voiced our concerns, individually, but it is now time for us to act collectively. Many of you are reading this and thinking, “Well, this isn’t my concern because I don’t even have this professor.” Although there is some validity in this assertion, the reality is that it could have been you. Your time and hard work could have been adversely impacted. –Or worse, this could impact you in later terms if this professor is placed elsewhere. We know that many of you have heard the agonizing complaints of your colleagues, and we are asking for your support.

Additionally, the purpose of this petition is message our needs to the administrative staff collectively. Your support and participation is needed, requested, and greatly appreciated. Let’s let our administrative staff know that the students of this course support and endorse each other! If you have additional concerns, please do not hesitate to email concerned1Lstudents@gmail.com.

Respectfully,

-Concerned 1L Students
