XXX City of Oakland: Relocate and House the Manila Avenue encampment

I am a 40+ year property owner in the area. I would echo the comments made by my neighbors and request that the City of Oakland take the necessary steps to restore the health and safety of our neighborhood. Thank you.

I am a business owner at 38th and Broadway. I have been harassed by the homeless people living around the corner multiple times. It needs to stop! PLEASE HELP

I live on the 4100 block of Manila and agree with everything stated here. This encampment has created a safety and public health risk for our street. I don’t have answers as to where these people can go. It’s the most difficult problem we have but that particular encampment is not safe.

There is nothing like a photo as the one shown here to describe what my neighbors on Manila Ave. have had to contend with for over 6 months. What you are not seeing is the drug trafficking, homeless using nearby front yards as their toilets. Oh, have I mentioned the thefts, dogs running loose, the fighting, the screaming in the middle of night? Mayor Libby Schaaf and Councilman Dan Kalb, we urge you to drop by this location at your earliest convenience, see it up close, take a nice long whiff of the stench, then call the trucks to haul all this trash away for good. My neighbors pay taxes. Blight like this is having a serious impact on their property value. This needs to end now. Please get off your best intentions and stop by our neighborhood. And, no, we won't be serving coffee and pastries.

There needs be an all out effort to get unhoused addicts to central location. With more than 4000 people on the street the problem is all most unfixable.

Kaiser didn’t find solution to the Mosswood encampment, it simply paid to have it move to someone’s else back yard. The encampments shouldn’t be allowed in residential areas.

I live here at the corner of 38th st and Manila st two doors down from the encampment and the abandoned "Glovatorium". Daily I step over syringes while walking to my car. Every day and every night there is some sort of altercation involving screaming and fighting or someone from the encampment going to front doors or coming up to my front door. Multiple times I've seen them defecating and pissing in broad daylight on the sidewalk. Four times now I have seen them ignite bonfires on the sidewalk near the abandoned toxic building. Obvious prostitution and drug dealing all day long coming and going from different cars visiting the RVs and abandoned cars on the block. In the past four months this encampment has quadrupled in size. Something needs to be done soon to relocate these people and find them help before it gets even worse and the safety of the entire block becomes even more at risk.

This encampment has been a nightmare for our neighborhood. We cannot walk down that part of manila ave anymore. Kaiser and the city must find a better solution for this!

I live on the corner of 38th and Manila and work at economy piedmont lumber . And within a matter of i can no longer walk to work using manila street. I shouldn't have to witness people using drugs with needles in plain site , the overpowering smell of urine and human waste this totally and completely out of control ! No one should have to step out of there home to see anyone such site or witness these things going on

Amazing it takes organizing a petition to the city over a horrible mess of an encampment. ZIP CODE DISCRIMINATION ! and it must end now.

This encampment has taken over the neighborhood and is unsafe and unsavory. We deserve to have our tax dollars pay to keep us safe

The City needs to step up and help these people. They have no water, toilets, access to hygiene or garbage pick up. It is a health hazard for them and for the neighbors, especially near the toxic waste site.

Please. They also smoke crack pipes and defecate on my lawn a block away.

The city of Oakland needs fo find new homes for this community --they are camped right next to the toxic waste site at 3860 Manila, they are causing crime and disruption in the neighborhood and are in need of city services. The city moved them out of Mosswood Park and didn't make an effort to find them new homes, so they ended up 2 blocks away in our neighborhood in a growing and dangerous camp. Daily I am disturbed by one resident of this community wandering around yelling and cursing at me and everyone he encounters at all hours of the day. Please help these people get a new location where they are not putting the community at risk of setting a toxic waste site on fire.

It's sad and frightening what has happened to that one block of Manila. And I'm watching its effect spread onto the next block south - the one I live on.
