In April, 14 year-old Maria Shahbaz (a Christian girl) was abducted at gunpoint and later forcibly married to an influential Muslim man. She was with the abductor for three months and her family turned to the Lahore High Court for help. On 4th August, the High Court ruled that she had willingly converted to Islam and married her kidnapper and hence, she was asked to stay with her abductor. The court dismissed birth certifications and school records proving that she was a minor. Such incidents are not uncommon in Pakistan and it is estimated that every year, over 2000 women and girls from Pakistan’s minority communities are abducted, converted to Islam and forced to marry their captors.
Likewise, there are many similar incidents of religious discrimination in Pakistan. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Hindus and Christians were allegedly denied aid, religious sites of minorities are being targeted by intolerant mobs and there has been a mass exodus of Hindus and Sikhs from Pakistan. Forceful conversions are also rampant, with reports surfacing of 102 Hindu men and women were being forcibly converted to Islam in Badin district of Pakistan in June. Reports also highlighted that Hindus in the Sindh province were being tortured, their houses were vandalised and forcibly taken, and a Hindu boy was kidnapped for refusing to convert. They were told to convert to Islam if they wanted to get their houses back.
On the whole, religious minorities are facing great persecution in Pakistan and this is deeply troubling. We seek your assistance on the matter to help and reach out to the international organisations as well as the Pakistani government in order to help those facing persecution.

I have for long taken my rights for granted. It is only when I read of others’ struggles that I realise my privilege. No one should have to live in this much fear. We cannot allow the normalisation of forced conversations.
This is something very cruel someone can do, forcibly changing religion of the people! Kidnapping them, raping them! They have to pay a tax to follow their own religion!??! What is wrong with the Pakistani Gov.?
Day after day minorities living in Pakistan are suffering by the hands of extremists , abduction,forced conversions,murder ,rapes of those minorities have become a common occurrence. Enough damage has been done already now it's time to free thise minorities from clutches of Pakistan

As a girl I’m deeply concerned about the conditions of the girls and women from minority communities in Pakistan.It gives me immense pains to know their state & this I hereby sign this petition.
