In 2006, the employer, the Ministry of Education, gave its employees no choice but to pursue a degree in Education from the University of Trinidad and Tobago. The Director of Human Resources, acting as an agent of the Ministry, informed employees that they could pursue any specialization once they were be qualified to do so. Eight (8) years later, these employees are being refused upgrade and are being forced into persistent poverty by receiving a minimum salary of $5,192.

We the family members, friends and supporters of the Graduate teachers of the University of Trinidad and Tobago call for the immediate dismissal of Dr The Honourable Tim Gopeesingh over his inefficient handling of the UTT upgrade matter.

The lives of teachers and their dependents have been adversely affected to the point of near destitution. As the line minister, Dr Gopeesingh is called upon to rectify this problem immediately or be removed at once.

The momentum is undeniable. This level of support proves that the mistreatment of these teachers can no longer be ignored.

Eight years is too long to wait to be treated with respect. Stop the excuses and pay the people their money.
