To Stallone, Lionsgate and all who are concerned,

We, the fans of The Expendables wish to show our disgust toward the decision to make the third installment a PG-13 just to cater to a new audience.

It's apparent that Sylvester Stallone, Patrick Hughes and Lionsgate have decided to tone it down because they want the third one to grab the audience that saw the likes of "The Hunger Games". The thing is, there's no need to because many fans of the franchise have been fans of the actors involved with these movies and the movies themselves since they initially debuted and many of the teenage audience that Stallone and the crew are now trying to reach don't even know who half of these stars are. The Expendables movies are targeted towards an adult audience and are supposed to be throwbacks to the classic 80s actioners which were R-rated and definitely not for the teenage audience and it is because of the fans that have supported Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Willis and many more throughout their entire career that the first movie grossed over $190,193,600 dollars at the box office. Movies are successes based on marketing and critical reviews, not the rating and the demographic the movie is supposed to be aimed for. Comedy movies like Ted, the first 2 Hangovers, Jackass 3D, Neighbors were all rated R and performed extremely high numbers at the box office, so toning it down won't guarantee box office success. Support from fans and positive reviews and the right marketing will do this.

We've been right here from the beginning and we've stuck by these actors through and through, we think it's unfair that they are forced to tone this down just so the movie can make more money and reach to a younger generation, when the purpose of these movies is to cater to the older generation that grew up with these movies and give them the feeling of nostalgia and remind them of what action movies used to be like. Younger audiences will still be able to see the movie if they wish, but they will have to bring a parent. Either way, the movie will still make the right amount of money given the support and given it's dedicated fanbase and the success of other R rated movies in recent years, it will be a guarantee. We know that there's an R rated cut of the movie somewhere and this was said by Dolph Lundgren to be the "grittiest of them all". This is what got fans pumped up and ready to buy tickets to see it. Please don't deprive them of what they're promised just to appeal to an audience who don't even know who these actors are or the purpose of these movies. Adults need their entertainment, let them and the fans have it.
