I just watched a documentary where they used Babydoll as an example of a female protagonist in media who appears to be empowering and have agency, but is actually merely in existence for the male viewer. I was in a college class and I almost got up and walked out, because it shows just how truly misunderstood the message and intent of this movie and it's characters were, when the reality is that the entire work was intentionally making an explicit comment about just that and more to its audience. I for one, would really like to see the original intentions of the writers and filmmakers, and then maybe we would all be be free from the burden of defending and explaining the Synder's work of art to those who sought to merely right it off.
