Reject Vaccine Mandates in Film & Theatre

We the undersigned, are employed in the motion picture, live entertainment, and related industries. We have been fortunate to be part of an industry that has allowed us to continue to earn a living in these uncertain times. As an industry we have made every effort to contain the spread of COVID-19 and protect our friends, families, co workers, the healthcare system, and our livelihoods. We have implemented stringent protocols to great effect, resulting in infection rates orders of magnitude lower than in the general populace.
No known measure can guarantee safety in the face of this pandemic or future ones, including the currently available vaccines. It is widely acknowledged that these vaccines do not provide complete protection against transmission, especially with emerging variants, and cannot replace preventive measures currently in place such as frequent testing and PPE.
Given the still evolving evidence of serious side effects, the many unknowns regarding the degree and longevity of protection afforded by current vaccines, and the proven success of current prevention protocols, we believe that vaccination mandates are an overreach and of dubious benefit. This top down approach encroaches on our right to know and our right to participate in health & safety in our workplace, and falls outside of an employer's duty to provide a safe workplace.
We are the vaccinated, the unvaccinated, the partially vaccinated, the vulnerable, the healthy, the grieving and the recovered. We hold a variety of personal beliefs and preferences regarding our bodies and health. Regardless - We stand united in our belief that granting employers the right to exert authority over individual worker's healthcare choices is a radically intrusive approach, setting a dangerous precedent in employee-employer relations.
Accordingly, we urge our respective representing unions and guilds to protect our health and bodily autonomy by withdrawing consent for the implementation of Mandatory vaccination policies in our workplace, starting with the next iteration of our back to work agreements coming into effect January 16 2022.
