A "VIDEO BAR" called MATTY'S NYC is planning an opening for November/December at 135 Seventh Avenue South. They originally promised "WILD WEDNESDAYS" with 75 CENT DRINKS, and weekends featuring “WORLD RENOWNED DJs AND RECORDING ARTISTS." Now we're not really sure what they're promising.

If you thought Veranda was a nightmare--this could be worse!

The space (ground floor/cellar of the apartment building at 163 W. 10th) formerly housed Tanti Baci Cafe, a hair salon, and a barbershop. THERE IS NO PRECEDENT FOR A BAR HERE. There IS space--and precedent--for a sidewalk cafe, right alongside Sel & Gras, Galway Hooker, and Landbrot.

There are at least 30 premises with liquor licenses within a two-block radius of this address. WE CAN'T DEAL WITH ANOTHER ONE!

Our neighborhood has become a "night-life corridor," our sidewalks filled with drunken revelers every night of the week. Our narrow streets echo with blasting music and shouting well past midnight. Bar owners ignore the legal requirement to close windows and doors at a reasonable hour.

ATTEND the hearing, and sign up to speak if possible--there's strength in numbers, and our voices must be heard.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 6:30 PM Our Lady of Pompeii, 25 Carmine St., Father Demo Hall (at Bleecker Street)

IT TOOK YEARS TO GET VERANDA CLOSED. LET'S STOP MATTY'S BEFORE IT OPENS!
