No parking garage in my residential neighborhood! I live two blocks away and can not imagine the traffic going to and from a garage.

However much I disagree with the elitist attitudes of some who think that parking on 5th & 3rd belongs to specific city neighborhoods, I do agree that I would never want this in my backyard, and I do not wish is on my close neighbors.
My moorings property taxes contribute to the 501(3)c which lobbies against the very residents who pay for it's financial viability. However illegal that is, I do not know. Ethically it goes beyond compare with a reputable non-profit. Those who are involve in support of this lobby should be exposed and removed from their position with no ability to ever serve in a similar capacity.
Regardless of how this turns out, this is "government" telling us that this is good for us and too bad if taxpayers believe otherwise.
I support the immediate neighbors to this project. I support what little charm remains in the downtown area. I support a government of the people & not the other way around. The law of diminishing return is next in que. Businesses who are not doing well in the area do not need more parking, they need better managers, products and neighbors & stakeholders who appreciate our downtown in her current glory.
Build a garage and you run out your local patrons. Downtown can remain desirable with less parking on 4th & 4th. Shuttle people in from a better suited location. We have Uber now too. Stroll into downtown. Park in a commercially dedicated area.

During season it takes a month to get a reservation at any of the downtown restaurants. We do not need to spend that much on another parking garage. Down town is full right now.

I support the construction of a parking garage in a non residential area such as acquiring land east of 9th Street.
I oppose the construction of a garage on the corner of 4th Street South and 4th Avenue South. While this would allow more business for in town merchants it comes at the expense or our quiet residential neighborhood.

A few key points which I trust the mayor and council will sincerely consider. I am a resident in the immediate area of this proposed garage.
First, the elected and appointed city officials know that we already have a traffic problem. I often hear you use words such as "traffic-calming" and, you have plans to reduce Hwy 41 to two lanes. How does another garage which will accommodate another 1000 cars a day fit with that narrative?
Next is the use of funds which should be targeted toward blighted areas of our town. Have all of you compared 5th Avenue to the area on 10th Street....between 41 and Goodlette? Do you see what the rest of us see?
In terms of the money, the signing of the real estate contract versus when the city manager decided to inform the public and other steps which tend to demonstrate a leadership style the complete opposite of full transparency, this doesn't seem to match up with the character of people my friends and I have voted into office!
Finally, are you paying close attention to consumer trends. Our real growth is not on the west end of 5th Avenue. Again, look 10-15 years into the future and consider what will be our needs closer to Naples Square, Tin City, The new Promenade on Naples Bay and, of course the entire area encompassing the space between Hwy 41 and Goodlette-Frank. This is where the true incremental growth will occur and frankly, collectively you have not done a good job by any measurement in representing the interests of the people in this area! As an example, tens of millions have been spent on the 5th Avenue area versus 1 million on the entire 10th Street corridor. Why is that? Also, look at the volumes of data which show how online purchases and the way in which millenials as well as others are making purchasing decisions. If you do your homework, you will find that making a huge investment in a "3rd " parking garage for 5th Avenue is not w

This is a total abuse of power by the City Council and should be stopped by the tax payers before the beauty and charm of our area is destroyed. We all need to be vocal and express our disagreement thru this petition and any other means of stifling the overreach by the Council. We don't want to be another overdeveloped Miami, do we?
