Highcroft school stands out among other neighbourhood schools in West Cary in quality and balance of resources with strength of students. Overcrowding would strap resources, bring down quality. Please help find alternatives to overcrowing at Highcroft.

It is unfair for HDE and current students to bear the brunt of overcrowding in Western Wake county. I am completely against HDE being an overflow school and also against additional modular units.
No more modular units at Highcroft! Neighboring elementary schools should share in shouldering some of the burden of growth in western Cary. It is unacceptable for HDES to be forced to accomodate it all! Based on capacity - HDES should be capped instead of these other schools!

Additionally, I am concerned about the increased traffic and extra cars that park/hoover at the varous entrances surround the neighborhood (sears farm road, sears farm park, lemster, millsfield and highcroft drive) We are walkers and it is NOT safe for us even with parents watching mindfully. Secondly, any future schools that are built should have extra space for "trailers" as HDE should not be the only option available for temporary classrooms.

Let's also talk about the Town's unlimited building permits - don't take away the small play area these children now have- do some long term planning and build more schools

Our young students' safety and quality teaching at HDE, should not be compromised by poor planning by our government and Wake County School System. Our school board has the power to do something "pawsitive" here to plan for all future families of Western Cary, including Highcroft. I am hopeful that their common sense will bring good will to our school after the see our commitment to our students and teachers of HDE.

Allowing Highcroft to "grow" by adding modular classrooms further exacerbates security concerns with housing children in exterior structures behind the school who are unsupervised when entering/exiting the main building - because they have to use the bathrooms in the building. Which leads to sanitary concerns of adding more children to an overcrowded bathroom that already has stalls out of order on a daily basis from current usage.

The mission statement of the Wake County Public Schools specifically mentions that "students come first...and opportunities are equitable." Adding more modular units to Highcroft Elementary School would dramatically reduce the outdoor area available to the children, create additional security hazards for children moving to/from the main building to modular units for bathroom facilities, and overburden an already over capacity school. It does not appear that the Wake County School Board is putting children who attend HES first, as the school system mission dictates. Additionally, Susan Evans (our District 8 School Board Member) has circulated a file that specifically shows that, under the current proposal, HES will have a total of 15 modular units, whereas Mills Park will have 2, Alston Ridge will have 0. That is not equitable. Our children deserve better and should not be unfairly disadvantaged.

The only reason for the current action is not the welfare of the children or their education, but political.
