Reject HB 1263 NH Hostile Homeschool Bill

Unbelievable attempt to power grab authority from parents. Government schools not held to the same standard they want to impose on dedicated home educators. LOL. MA lobbying in NH!

I completely agree with the comment in the above article, "These are NOT conditions that any other public or private school is held to..." I do not wish to have my parental rights removed, especially with regard to education. I oppose the HB 1263 bill.

I am a current home school parent as well as a home school alumni and college graduate. I strongly oppose this bill.

I am emphatically against this bill. I am a CA credentialed teacher with 14 years experience and now a homeschool parent for 6.5 years. These standards are not placed on government run schools and therefore should NOT be placed on homeschool families.

It is inequitable to hold home educators to more invasive, stricter standards than those imposed upon the public school students.

Follow the money you always get your answer. In this case public school enrollment is down significantly in recent years. This is unnecessary over-regulation. Home school children often outperform their public school counterparts. At a time when the state is moving toward more school choice, this bill is a step in the wrong direction. Vote against HB 1263.

This is overreach. Home schools should not be held to different, higher standards than government schools.

The first question is, why are these changes being sought? Where is the study that shows there is a problem with homeschooling in NH and that these changes would fix the problem? Without a clearly identified issue and well-developed solution, no lawmaker should spend any time creating new laws or changing existing ones. These changes represent a vast overreach of government and would put an unnecessary burden on homeschooling parents. Without these proposed legal impositions, I homeschooled both my children from K-12. Both are now highly successful college students. Lawmakers, please vote ITL on HB1263.

To whom it may concern, I am against any bill that would put more burden on homeschool families. Raising and teaching my children is my responsibility, and I take the job very seriously. HB 1263 brings us backwards in NH homeschooling law. It is unnecessary . The new law, which abolished most of what is being re-introduced in this bill has only been in place for about three years and there has been no valid reason to change it back. Across the entire country it has been shown time and time again that states with no oversight vs. states with heavy oversight in the homeschool realm have the same outcome...an 85th average percentile in testing placement for homeschooled students..which far exceeds the 50th percentile for public students. If a student is having a problem, a parent is far more likely to reach out for help if they are not fearing ramifications. If public schools faced this same kind of scrutiny, 40% of all public schooled students and their teachers would be on probation each year. Are we honestly be told that if we have a student that is scoring at the 40th percentile that the threat of removing the child to the public school arena is going to the be the answer? This is not moving forward in a spirit of cooperation and mutual working toward the goal of great education, this is moving backwards to an era of distrust and assumed incompetence towards parents that choose to home educate.

Cannot put a child's mind in a square box. If schools were held to this standard, they would be investigated for incompetent educators.

I absolutely reject this bill! It is a parent's job to determine what is best for their child. I reject any means that will try to strip us of this right.

Please keep your laws off our children! We are capable of parenting, and educating, them without outside "supervision".

NH residents deserve the right to educate their children however they see fit, without government oversight. If the educational outcome of the student is the measure of success, public educational institutions have absolutely no evidence of their ability to produce results, and therefore no authority to dictate educational practices to individuals.

It is the right of the parents to educate their children in the way they see fit. Reject this bill and these regulations!

I have been homeschooling for 18 years. My son graduated with an excellent scholarship and is in college with a 3.7 GPA. Nothing changed in our home schooling program when the rules were "relaxed" in 2012. This home schooling bill does is discriminatory against home educators. We take our jobs seriously.

Home schoolers pull their children from public school because of the lack of true accountability, lack of morals and ethics, and stealing the joy of learning through Common Core garbage mind-numbing curriculum. This legislation is another attack on preventing our children from joyfully finding their purpose and place in the world under the guise of concern. This legislation is an attempt to once again halt and rob our children from a true "classical" educational experience. Why would we allow those very people in education that we ran far and fast from to have access and oversight? Good grief! When are legislators going to start protecting the minds, bodies, and spirits of our children?? Legislators are creating a problem where one doesn't exist. Legislators - you need to target public schools. Further, where in the Constitution does it say "the State" is the end all be all of education for our children? Thanks but no thanks. The State and the country has lost it's way when it comes to public education, and what our children need to grow and be healthy and analytical for our country's future. Kathleen LaBonte - Henniker
