We, the students of the University of Delaware, petition the University of Delaware to revoke the FIVE-year suspension placed on the UD MEN’S RUGBY CLUB. The gathering that took place the night of September 9th, 2013, at South College Avenue, was not sponsored by the University Of Delaware Men’s Rugby Club. It was an unplanned and spontaneous event of which many players of the Rugby Club had no prior knowledge of until after the unfortunate events that occurred later on Main Street. Since the UD Men’s Rugby Club did not sponsor the event, we do not believe the entire team should be suspended or held accountable. A five-year suspension for an entire 90 member team, when it was not a team sanctioned event and so many team members were not even present, is unfair and extreme. We respectfully ask University of Delaware to reconsider and reinstate.
