The school administration has officially reversed the decision to remove Coach Briseno from her position. It is heartening to see how clearly the board heard our collective perspective on the reality of coaching protocols. We look forward to seeing her back on the mats with the team.

Dear Mr.Hawkins & Mr.Kuffel,
We as parents are asking that the decision to relieve Coach Briseno as head cheer coach be reconsidered and reversed. We as parents believe that the supervision issue at Nationals raised should not have resulted in the termination of her Coach role. More than 25 cheerleaders attended that event, and there were only a few coaches/chaperones, we as parents knew that there would be times they would not be supervised. This coupled with the fact that we have solid proof that other other sports teams from Shadow Ridge are regularly unsupervised at times when they travel should be grounds for reconsidering your actions. We have confirmed with parents from both Valley Vista and Willow Canyon that their spiritlines follow the same protocol that Coach Briseno administered - no athlete was to be left alone, but rather in small groups, with two being the minimum. They do NOT have a coach or adult with them at all times as they simply do not have that many chaperones attend. If this is the district standard, then why is a coach who followed those protocols being dismissed?
This decision came as quite a blow to both the varsity and JV squads. They all adore Coach Briseno and know that she gives them her heart and soul, finding that nowadays is extremely rare. Is she perfect, absolutely not but she cares tremendously and is in it for the "right reasons". Finding a replacement with suitable cheer experience AND someone who will care as much as she does will be extremely difficult, and in our minds unwarranted.
We as parents deserve the right to have our voices heard on this as there was no rule broken per current Dysart district travel protocol, no malice & no morality question raised in our minds. If the Dysart board believes there needs to be a change in policy with regard to travel, then so be it, but this should be executed consistently throughout all of the schools. Terminating someone from their coaching responsibilities while other sports teams at Shadow as well as other schools within the district follow the same standards with regard to supervision without issue is both hypocritical and unfounded.
We would be happy to attend any board meeting required to discuss this further and make our voices heard.

I had Briseno as my dance and Pom coach for 3 years in high school. She was always determined to keep everyone happy and made sure the girls were always safe and if anyone had any issues they could go to her for anything. She's amazing and this should not have happened.
I graduated from Shadow in 2014 . Kuffle had hated briseno & made her do unnecessary stuff all the time for as long as I can remember. Since I was a sophomore in high school. I am 21 now. To hear he is still treating her unfairly is ridiculous, he made it hard for the cheer girls back then, I can't even imagine the difficulty right now. Ugh.
She couldn't be up and in visible contact with each girl 24 hours a day. She has been great with the girls, gave them plenty of self confidence to get good enough to make it to nationals. She deserves to be reinstated.
This is such a disgrace. There must be a hidden agenda behind this. Why are we the standards not the same for all teams at Shadow Ridge
My daughter made the wrong decision. This was nothing to do with lack of supervision. Admin approved the amount of chaperons.... They should be punished as well.
Briseno was not only my dance teacher but my cheer coach freshman-sophomore year. She doesn't deserve this. Please reconsider, she is an amazing coach and instructor.
It wasn't Coach Brisenos fault for anything. She did everything she was directed to do and all she was doing was her job. She doesn't deserve to be fired for doing her job.

It was not even her team that was caught making bad decisions, it is highschool the students made their own decisions and they should live with the consequence, this school has been absolutely ridiculous with every policy they have. I will never let my child attend a school that treats high schoolers like they are in elementary, and bullies their staff the way they do.
