Becoming a law enforcement officer, be it Patrol or Chief, does not reduce your freedom of speach. Simply stating your opinion is not grounds for dismissal. Reinstate, with pay, and apologize.

No Law Enforcement Officer should be forced to choose between his constitutionally guaranteed right to freedom of speech and his job. He did not threaten anyone, he did not use foul or offensive language...he merely voiced his opinion. Why is it high profile government employees can embrace those who say their purpose is to kill law enforcement (of any race) and kill all whites, but if one does not agree with them, they may no longer hold their job as an enforcer of the law? This Chief did nothing wrong and deserves to keep his job.

in these troubled times our towns/cities NEED all the helping hands, minds and skilled workers (law enforcement) that we can get.
The oath that this individual took was to protect and serve and selflessly that is what THIS man has done!

Black Lives Matter is in my opinion a domestic terrorist organization. Mike Halstead was wrongfully forced to retire and I am demanding his IMMEDIATE reinstatement as Chief of Police of Surf City North Carolina. A formal apology needs to be made by Ad.D. (Zander) Guy Jr.

Yes, sad when a man works for 35 years and is fired for expressing what we all believe. Our law officers are under attack by this racist group..The Chiefs life matters too. I have vacationed in your area many times. I will rethink this if he is not reinstated. Cowards who bow down to hate groups and hurt a persons lawful rights need some introspective rethinking!!
