I knew Mike before he went to Surf City when I worked with his wife. He is a good family man and was exercising his 1st amendment. It is time to stop "bullying" those who exercise their right to freedom of speech!

I'm sorry, but who ever was in charge of forcing a good seasoned officer to retire for reasons given, SHAME ON YOU. Just plain STUPID.

America is not going to put up woth this crap much longer. Squash the violent offenders, stand by law abiding cops and grow a backbone!!!!! By the reviews for this city it looks as though doing the cowardly thing is about to hit them in the pocketbook so maybe THAT can get them to do the right thing!

As a retired law enforcement officer, and after reviewing the on-line comment made by the Chief, I find there was no hate speech, or malicious intent involved, by the Chief of Police.
Therefore, I feel the Mayor and City Council should have supported the Chief in this matter, rather than "THROWING HIM UNDER THE BUS"!
It is my feeling, the Chief should be reinstated forthwith, and his name cleared of any wrong doing.

To bow down to an agenda that the NAACP selectively enforces on a whim, is unconscionable. The chief merely expressed an opinion, but because he's white, the NAACP is up in arms. But when Sheriff Clark speaks, nothing but crickets from the NAACP..Clearly a double standard, or the NAACP knows Sheriff Clark is spot on in his indignation..........

I believe this officer was wrongly forced to retire.I think he deserves his job back. He is an officer of the law and commented on something most are afraid to comment on.He has the right to freedom of speech just as anyone else has.

Cops have First Amendment rights too. I did not find his comments inappropriate or offensive. He has a right to speak up for himself and his brothers in blue!!
He needs to be reinstated. Total disgrace #LESMA
