Reinstate Bobby Lonergan as Routt Catholic and Our Savior baseball coach

I truly hope that the Routt Catholic High School board and the Administration at OSS reconsider their decision on firing Bobby. There has been 2 Routt graduates that I can think of that have become great head coaches and been a true inspiration on young mens lives and one is Bobby Lonergan. He maybe an old school coach but there is nothing wrong with that. He has had winning seasons and has the respect of his players that some coaches will never have or know. No matter the reason the boards felt this was the thing to do, seeing all the comments and feelings showing by his players and players parents, it appears to be a mistake that will cost Routt a lot more than the board members thought about. He is a good guy, a great guy, who knows and cares for his players and the sport. There is a small handful of coaches that have the skills, the dedication, the patience the discipline and determination and the heart to instill in young men’s life’s. They have tough decisions a lot of times when it comes to choosing players who play and the ones who have to sit the bench. Trust me this is not easy on coaches but the parents have to let the coaches coach and take the good with the bad as they don’t like it any better than the parents when they have to choose. Bobby has always taken into consideration each player and I am positive it is never easy to make decisions that he knows will have back lash. But no matter if he played ever child equally there would be back lash of some kind. So no matter what the reason is for the boards decision, this is a winning coach, a great coach who has the respect of players, parents and other coaches and This decision needs to be reconsidered.

Bobby deserves to be the coach at Routt

Fair. Firm. Consistent. Three great attributes of a coach & leader.

As a youth Pastor and a coach, I know first hand how crucial it is for young people to have someone willing to invest in them. Regardless of pay, coaching is not, and cannot be looked at as just a "position" to be filled by anyone. Coaches often take on a role of a parent, or at very least a highly regarded mentor to these kids. As such, that sometimes causes friction with the young people or parents, but if done so correctly by someone truly passionate; it always works for the greater good in the long run with students. If those in position to hire/fire give in to "feelings" of a parent or aggravated student, every passionate, effective coach, is in danger of losing their position. Support Bobby and all the other passionate coaches you know, they pour into your children in ways you could never imagine.

A similar situation occurred as I went through Routt with head basketball coach Billy Cooper. He was released by the Routt administration and board simply because of parents and politics (which neither should be involved in high school sports). What the administration and parents don’t realize is these coaches have impact way beyond high school sports. To this day I still reach out to both and let them know how their tough coaching styles pushed me to be not only a better athlete but a more driven person dedicated to improving through working hard. It was a mistake for Routt to let Coach Cooper go then and it’s a even bigger mistake to let someone so dedicated to the sport and school system like Bobby go now.

The need for Coach Lonergan to reinstated as head Baseball Coach at Routt and OSS is a must

We need more coaches like Bobby Lonergan molding and leading our children to prepare them for what real life throws their way.

The parents and players have spoken on this volumes on character of a coach that dedicated countless hours in the lives of many young men. Players need this role model in their lives.

The decision made to fire such a powerful coach and leader to our youth is nothing but a shame. Shame on the school board, shame on the administration. The impact this man had made on hundreds, has devastated thousands! All for what!?!?? We have every right as supporters of this school to know why! He is one of the best coaches my son has ever had and my son is (well was) thrilled to play for this man. A decision like this will make a huge impact on the schools and fear the outcome and devastation to come. This “power struggle” of the administration has only affected the kids of a school they are meant to serve!!

Bobby is so much more than a baseball coach. He has taught me so many valuable life lessons on and off the field. He is someone I have always looked up to and always will. Rest assured I will never donate another dime to Routt or Our Savior again. The audacity these people are showing without ever asking any of the players, past or present, what their opinion is beyond ridiculous.

Bob has given everything to make those baseball programs what they are. He deserves better!!

Bobby is a great coach as seen from the past he has brought this team much success and has support routt and oss since he has been here.

This man is a great coach and person... you would be doing every player and student at Routt a disservice, by letting him go.
