Voodoo Doughnut needs to do the right thing and honor their employees. The company has gotten $1m+ in loans since COVID began, and spending has been in shifty places- such as opening a new location when current locations need your attention, giving salaried managers bonuses while doughnuteers and shift leads struggle, and refusing to provide hazard pay to staff working in unsafe conditions. Rehire your lost employees. It’s even *cheaper* to rehire, since you don’t have to go through the onboarding and training process. Your conscious decision to go the more expensive route and hire new folks shows where the heart of the company truly lies now- with the extortion of current and future employees while you continue to expand Voodoo’s brand and rake in the cash. As a current employee of Voodoo, it’s wildly disappointing to see the direction this company is headed.

As a donut man, GODDAMNIT RECOGNIZE YOUR WORKERS AS HUMAN BEINGS TO BE SPOKEN TO! Guess what, as a business owner myself, pro tip-- it is easier. Doing the right thing and the easy thing rarely get to be bedfellows, and yet, here they are! Do the right/easy thing!

I was laid off from Voodoo donuts at the old town location in March 2020 and was not called to get my job back, after I was left a voicemail by management saying they wanted to rehire me again when they could. I am also an active union member in Portland and with the donut workers union.

Along with the donut workers union I am calling on Voodoo Donuts to Commit to Rehiring every union worker they are trying to illegally get rid of. It is every workers’ right to pursue a union. Augie’s Union stands in solidarity with all of the donut workers, keep fighting.
