I sent the following email to Nick Loos with a cc to Jim Sterk and Chancellor Cartwright. “I find is very disrespectful, tacky, inconsiderate (you get the picture) to blindside two women who have given their all to the young men and women who, in turn, give their all to support the athletes of MIZZOU. They have been True Tigers longer than anyone in the Athletic Dept. and you unceremoniously dump them! But wait ! There’s more...they can compete for one job!**. This is to promote “efficiency”. The reason is so vague, making it that much more unpalatable. The very LEAST you could have done was to bring them in and get their input into this reorganization. And our new slogan is - MAKE IT RIGHT! So are you up to the challenge! I know you are the messenger. Just want the people involved making this “efficiency” decision, to know they really dropped the gall>. Pun intended.
**have since learned there is a national search going on to replace Suzy and Shannon. Apparently they aren’t able to apply for the job.

Suzy is a sweet compassionate and die hard Mizzou supporter. She has given so many students support and is a wonderful role model. But above all, she is an amazing coach who puts her athletes FIRST.

It’s about more than my friend being fired because of program changes. It’s about being embarrassed as an alum of the institution that it wasn’t handled better. Show respect for these programs and student athletes. You wouldn’t fire the head coach of a program after their recruiting (tryout) period and as practices started. Kids committed to MU cheer and dance programs with the idea of who their coaches would be, planned their summers around when practices would be and now are stuck not knowing. When is the hiring process? It’s not like other programs where kids can transfer and feel out other teams because of the coaching change. This makes the university look bad on so many levels. I get that budgets everywhere have to be cut because of the poor behavior of a few, but to cut a non- revenue program that gets very little as it is... c’mon... bully the big guys. This just makes the admin look weak.
And let’s start treating people better so we can stay out of the news for treating people so poorly. I really hoped this poor behavior was in our past. This should have been done in a way that these two women could at least “retire” and get a little fanfare on their way out instead of just being fired.
Mizzou admin - you have the potential to be classy yet you drop the ball every time it is passed to you. If you want coaches to instill values, and players to do it right and you want to use the slogan of #makeitright let’s start from the top down. Stop bullying the programs that didn’t bring disgrace to the university and start treating people right.

Coach Suzy Thompson has basically built the University of Missouri spirit program from the ground up. As a fellow cheerleading coach it amazes me how much care, time, energy, and dedication she gives to the University. staff? Where/who does the Athletic Administration think they will find a more qualified, caring, dedicated individual to be in charge of the spirit program? Win or lose, the cheerleaders ALWAYS represent the school in a positive manner. Their excellent skills and attitude are due in huge part to Coach Thompson . If the administration really does choose to continue in the direction they have indicated, Coach Thompson at LEAST deserves to be given FAIR evaluation and opportunity to have her position returned to her. Her 26 years of faithful service to the University of Missouri need to mean something!

I am saddened to hear that Mizzou would so carelessly toss aside someone who has dedicated such an enormous amount of time and dedication into their school and students.

Austin's Mizzou cheer coach was fired earlier this week. My heart is broken. Since the first day, I met Coach Suzy when Austin was still a Senior in High School I knew I didn't have to worry about him moving 9 hours away. Why? Because he was going to have a mom in Columbia to take care of him. These last 3 years she has not only been a coach and friend to our family but has taken care of Austin like a 2nd mom. Austin was in the hospital last year with Pneumonia and who was by his side until we could get there? Of course, it was Coach Suzy. She took amazing care of him. This is the kind of person she is. Her athletes are not just athletes to her but her family. Please take a moment to sign this petition to bring her back. #MAKEITRIGHT

Suzy Thompson is the epitome of what a cheerleading coach is all about. Loyalty and quality should mean a lot more than what MU is showing this fine coach.
Picking on dedicated workers. Just wrong
