I agree, there should be regional hearings BEFORE this bill becomes law.

If Chairman Thiesfeldt refused to hold a hearing on a substantially changed bill after the changes are made public, it shows great disrespect for open governing and great disrespect for the people of Wisconsin.

What about those "Freedoms" Gov. Walker repeated over and over about in his state of the state speech. Looks like the freedom of speech doesn't happen in Wisconsin. Hearings need to happen and legislators need to start listening to the public. Otherwise we don't have a democracy but fascism by a bunch of dictators that are more concerned about profiting from our public school system than improving it and making it available to all.

Bills having this broad an effect on our state need to have hearings held in many regions. It is the only way for all voices to be heard.

Hearings must be held in places easily accessible to those whom legislation most grievously impacts. AB1 effects EVERY public school district in Wisconsin. It is incumbent on the Assembly to hear the people and to accomodate in a timely way hundreds, perhaps thousands of Wisconsinites who have a say in this proposal. It is irresponsible to advantage consultants and lobbyists while simultaneously disadvantaging the people of Wisconsin.

Educating our children for the future is the most important function of government. How can these decisions be made when the people haven't been heard from.

Parents and other taxpayers in Wisconsin deserve to know the contents in AB-1 (or any substitute bill), and, deserve the opportunity to relay their concerns to the Legislative Communications Commmittee in face-to-face meetings around the State of Wisconsin. It would be our hope that the committee can schedule meetings on days and during hours that are convenient for working parents.
Hold another hearing, PLEASE
