An ipetition petition entitled "A nationwide moratorium on the teaching of evolution in schools" has garnered 229 signatures at the time of writing this.

Please sign this opposing one and share the pants off it.

The "moratorium" petition calls on Mike Pence, described, incorrectly at the time of writing, as the "Vice President of the United States" to remove the teaching of evolutionary science from the core curriculum in American schools.

There are several problems with this idea.

Education is supposed to acquaint students with reality, and evolution is true. For proof of common descent , see my FAQ.

An understanding of evolution is essential to an understanding of the world. Nothing in biology (which includes human affairs) makes sense except in the light of evolution.

Evolution-denial employs several techniques that may be used to undermine science as a whole, from outright lies to misleading spin and cherry-picking, to amateur philosophical heckling. This contributes to the general dumbing down of society.

Please comment below, but also sign, share, and encourage others to sign and share. Let's nip this insanity in the bud.
