Whereas, individuals have the inherent right to choose or decline to choose any mode of securing health care services without penalty or threat of penalty by the federal government of the United States of America; and Whereas, individuals have the right to hold no medical insurance or pursue alternative means of healthcare or treatment; and, Whereas, providing healthcare or health insurance is not the proper role of government as it is the function of the free market along with the work of local churches and charities; and, Whereas, it is difficult to know the full extent to which Florida small business employers will be adversely impacted by the implementation of Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), which is likely to result in increased unemployment and business closures; and, Whereas, Florida is starting to show signs of economic recovery, and the cost of implementing a state-run health insurance exchange and expanding Medicaid will be costly to the state’s budget; and, NOW, BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the undersigned, do hereby respectfully urge the Florida Legislature to reject implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in it’s entirely, and specifically to reject implementation of the Florida health insurance exchange or appropriating funds.
