Just seen the hell that is Aleppo on the 10 o'clock news. I hope we can find it within ourselves to offer a Manx welcome to a couple of dozen who have managed to escape that nightmare. Times may be tough here but it's all relative.

Well done - and yes, 200 would be more like it.

We should be committing to take many more than 25 refugees.

We all have a moral duty to help those less fortunate than ourselves, no matter where they come from. I hope if the tables were turned someone, somewhere would help us

I totally agree Denise, but going back to the original requests and questions asked in Tynwald, it was decided to work out pro-rata based on the U.K.'s commitment of 20,000 by 2020 - ideally I think all 25 should arrive together, not 5 per year. Anyway one year has gone by already! As we would be opting in to help with the U.K .scheme this figure compares favourably with the numbers allocated to cities and regions throughout the U.K. It's just that their target of 20,000 is very modest compared to most other European countries.

If the tables were turned and it was us I hope places would have the compassion to take us in-We need to help make this earth a better place.

We have a moral and humanitarian role to play in supporting these people in desperate need. We can offer a safe place to allow these fellow humans a chance to heal from the horro they have been pulled into through no fault of their own. When your country is being bombed and torn apart you don't have a choice but to leave and seek sanctuary. We can offer that.
