Refreshing, Clean, Healthy H2O - Why is safe drinking water not provided to every Canadian?
Canada claims to be a 'First world country' because of its political stability, economic stability and an overall comfortable standard of living. Shockingly, not all Canadians are able to make this claim - especially when it comes to safe drinking water for every Canadian. Sadly, some First nation Communities are currently living in third world conditions because they do not have access to safe drinking water. How can this be possible in this day and age in Canada with our state of the art technology, our Canadian reputation of tolerance, fairness and decency, living in one of the richest, most advanced countries in the world? Shamefully, in this great country of ours, this is a reality! It's a fact! How is this possible? More than 80 First Nations communities are currently under “boiled water advisories” and have been for over 20 years, and 21 communities are deemed to be at high-risk for contamination. For decades, this problem has been overlooked and pushed to the back burner. This is a real threat to human health, which is completely unacceptable! We are talking about this happening right now in Canada! It is a crisis when our first Canadians, especially children, are forced to live under such tragic circumstances. We need to come together as responsible, empathetic citizens to take action to pressure the Canadian government to act on fixing this problem in a responsible, effect and prompt manner.
