We, the fans, fighters, and promoters of mixed martial arts hereby sign this petition in order to ask the State Athletic Commissions of the United States to reform judging in Mixed Martial Arts. Every year there are several controversial and objectionable decisions in professional mixed martial arts at the highest level of competition. Our basic demands include: 1. At televised matches, and whenever else it is possible, the judges should have video monitors ringside and be able to watch the replays they wish to see between rounds. 2. The judges should complete a training and certification course designed by a collaboration of experienced professional fighters, experienced referees, and promoters of both national and regional events. A judge that cannot elaborate the difference between an omoplata and an Americana, or between a Greco-Roman and a Muay Thai clinch does not belong in this sport. 3. Tactics should be awarded that cause the most damage, and/or are most likely to decisively finish the fight. 4. Judges must be held accountable and decisions should be reviewed by the Athletic Commissions. This is not intended to punish judges, but rather to help them improve. Fighters train hard, judges should too. Thank you for your time.
