The University of Texas Gender and Sexuality Center mistakes the concept of multiculturalism for a privileging of homosexual lifestyles, and the concept of diversity for an endorsement of limitless sexual license. The Gender and Sexuality Center, first, affirms the concepts of multiculturalism and diversity while simultaneously privileging homosexual lifestyles; as though this were simply the most diverse among diverse groups. Second, the Gender and Sexuality Center promotes the concept of diversity, which is the negativity of all morals, while both vilifying and neglecting to describe any limit to sexual promiscuity. However, the concepts of multiculturalism and diversity do not entail either a privileging of homosexual lifestyles or an endorsement of sexual license. On the contrary, because these concepts of non-identity negate and contradict all affirmations of particular groups and qualities, any such privileging is radically contradicted by the concepts of diversity and multiculturalism. Moreover, to specify or affirm any group or quality would also be to determine some particular material thing which is not simply derived from the formal concept and would, for this reason, trespass beyond the formal purity of the concept of multiculturalism, which is simply the blind and completely indeterminate activity of diversity, i.e. of negativity, instantiated within a community. As a consequence of the indeterminacy of formal concepts, multiculturalism and diversity cannot specify, privilege or endorse any group or quality among the members of a set. And because ceaseless negativity merely negates and does not affirm anything, the concepts of multiculturalism and diversity may not, without the barest caprice, affirm any particular ideas, creeds or doctrines. The contradiction between the rhetoric of diversity and the policy of endorsing sexual promiscuity results in the hypocrisy of the Gender and Sexuality Center. The Gender and Sexuality Center's unabashed intention to negate the gender roles and sexual morals of men and women is derived from the imperative to become diverse, to actualize multiculturalism, and the ceaseless negativity that is implicit within these concepts of non-identity. The concept of diversity is merely that of non-identity within a set, and the concept of multiculturalism is merely the instantiation of this concept of non-identity, as negativity, within a community. From this understanding of the logical form of the concept of diversity, we conclude that the policies and rhetoric of the Gender and Sexuality Center have been capricious because no particular privileging may simply be derived from the purely formal concept of diversity, and hypocritical because the privileging of homosexual lifestyles is not entailed, but rather contradicted by the more general imperative towards diversity. Sign this petition to encourage the University of Texas students, faculty and staff to reform the Gender and Sexuality Center, to achieve its stated goal of becoming a "safe space for all member of the UT Austin community to explore and organize around issues of gender and sexuality" rather than working to vilify, subvert and negate the gender roles and sexual morals of the students.
