Prior to 1996 the Presidential debates were hosted by political groups like the League of Women Voters. During the 1992 elections, independent presidential candidate Ross Perot was able to attend. Due to his appearance, he was able to garner 19 percent of the popular vote.
After this the Federal government created the Commission on Presidential debates. It set higher standards, at the expense of the taxpayers, and reduced the ability of an alternative candidate to debate the candidates of the two major parties.
Isupport disbanding the Commission on Presidential debates and returning toa system of entrustingthepresidential debateswith reputable nonpartisan groups.

Seeing this momentum grow reminds me of how much we lost when the open exchange of ideas was locked away behind partisan walls. Each new person joining this effort proves that voters are tired of being handled and are ready to reclaim their place at the table.

It is rigged plain and simple. The debate commission is just a shield for the major parties to keep everyone else out of the spotlight.
Why are we paying for these debates if they only let the people they want on stage. Total waste of our money.
Sick of the duopoly. Let people debate!!!
The two parties have a total stranglehold on the system. We deserve to hear real options instead of just the same old stuff every four years.
bring back ross perot vibes. democracy is dead if we only get two choices.
