This petition calls on all members of Victoria's parliament to fix our State of Emergency and State of Disaster laws. Whether you agree with the recent lock downs of Victoria or not, we should not be subject to emergency powers for months without independent oversight. All such declarations, and the subsequent rules imposed, should be subject to democratic processes - either by Parliament or a panel made up of opposition members - who act as a form of upper house able to refuse any declarations made, or any rules proposed, during a State of Emergency.

We cannot be surrendering our democracy for indefinite periods, with very severe restrictions and far-reaching consequences.

What you can do:

When we reach 10,000 signatures, please contact your local member and make them aware of the petition. Include the text above in your communication.

This is a supposed to be a democratic and free nation. We cannot have rogue governments with unfettered power who can criminalise citizens for disagreeing with and protesting their policies.

The power needs to be checked. We cant just let one person decide everything for months on end without any debate in parliament. Enough is enough.

It is a joke and needs to be fixed.
