Our waste electronics are polluting drinking water and harming ecosystems around the world. It's time to fix it! Minimizing electronic waste is one of the best ways to keep our environment safe. Think about how many people just throw away their old tablets, computers, smartphones, or any electronic devices yearly. A whopping 20 to 50 million metric tons of e-waste are disposed each year. Unfortunately, only about 12.5% of it is recycled. In the United States alone, more than 100 million computers are thrown away with less than 20% being recycled properly. Humans are practically the sole reason e-waste exists. We are responsible for the problem as we are the ones disregarding the technology. This is why we need more recycling methods in the world so we can successfully reduce the amount of e-waste in our environment. When electronic waste end up in landfills, toxic materials like mercury, lead, and cadmium get into the soil and water of our environment. There aren't enough recyclers in the U.S. alone to handle all the electronics we're throwing away. We're throwing away literally tons and tons of electronics because people don't know how to fix them. Without a lot of e-waste recyclers around the world and in our country the amount of e-waste will build up and double each year causing even more hazardous materials to stay on our planet. With more e-waste cycle centers in the United States that are closer to home then the chances of humans recycling goes up significantly. We NEED more recyclers around the world and in our country.
