English version below Aan de leden van de universitaire gemeenschap Ondanks het grote wantrouwen van de universitaire gemeenschap na de omstreden rectorevaluatie blijft de Bijzondere Universiteitsraad (BUR) het laken naar zich toe trekken. Volgens het voorstel van 16 januari 2009 kunnen kandidaat-rectoren maar aan de verkiezing deelnemen na een goedkeuring door de BUR met een meerderheid in zowel de Raad van Bestuur (zeg maar externen) als in de Academische Raad (de vertegenwoordigers van de universitaire gemeenschap). De voorgestelde procedure is zeer sterk vergelijkbaar met de procedure gebruikt om het mandaat van rector Vervenne niet te verlengen. Dit voorstel is niet transparant, getuigt van een absoluut gebrek aan vertrouwen in de universitaire gemeenschap en negeert ook vorige protesten. Wij aanvaarden niet dat de universiteit uit de handen van de universitaire gemeenschap wordt genomen. Wij eisen daarom met een petitie dat de Academische Raad van 9 februari 2009 en de Raad van Bestuur van 17 februari 2009 uitdrukkelijk de komende rectorverkiezingen vrij maken zonder preselectie van kandidaat-rectoren. De keuze van een rector is de taak van de universitaire gemeenschap, d.i. het hele kiescollege. U kan deze nieuwe petitie hier ondertekenen door uw gegevens in te vullen en op “sign petition” te drukken. According to a new proposal of January 16th 2009, candidates for Rector will be allowed to stand only after approval by the Special University Council, by a majority in the (external) Board of Governors as well as in the (internal) University Council. The procedure proposed is strikingly similar to that used not to extend the term of Rector Vervenne. This proposal is not transparent and reflects a complete lack of trust in the university community and a total disregard of previous protests. We do not accept this attempt to take the university away from the university community. We are therefore starting up a petition to demand that the Academic Council meeting of 9 February 2009 and the Board of Governors meeting of 17 February 2009 allow the forthcoming elections for rector to take place without preselection by the Special University Council.
