The city finally caved and the park sign is officially changing to honor Rod Serling. It took far too much pressure to get these bureaucrats to move but we forced their hand. Enjoy the new name and keep pushing to protect the history they tried to ignore.

Final supporters
Rod Serling, award winning playwright and creator of The Twilight Zone, called Binghamton his hometown. Even after he and his family had relocated to California, he would return to Binghamton every summer to see the places of his youth - his boyhood home on Bennett Ave, his high school on Main Street, and his beloved Recreation Park. It was here that he turned for inspiration for one of the most beloved Twilight Zone episodes, "Walking Distance," about a middle-aged man who wants nothing more than to return to the parks and carousels of his youth. By signing this petition, we declare that Rod Serling's love for his hometown - and particularly for Recreation Park, be officially recognized by changing the park's name to Rod Serling's Recreation Park.

This park is represented in the greatest Twilight Zone episode written by Rod. His great love for and promotion of Binghamton ought to be acknowledged by adding his name to Recreation Park.
Having grown up in Binghamton, I feel honored to have Rod’s legacy attached to mine. His creative output has had a tremendous effect on generation after generation. His focus on social justice is more relevant than ever and its time we make Binghamton a symbol for all that Rod stood for.
I thank Rod Serling for sharing his writing gift with the world. His stories entertain and provoke thought simultaneously. He is our own Shakespeare and should be given this honor.
When the borders open up, my family is going to NYC. On the way we want to stop in Binghamton almost exclusively for Rod related things. His name would be an very welcome thing.
There is already a marker on the bandstand and the carousel has Twilight Zone paintings on it. No better place to honor Rod than his beloved park, walking distance from his boyhood home.

One of our family's "regular" tv shows growing up. I was five years old when that speech was read, I am just hearing it at 63. Yes, rename the park after Rod Serling. He would be ecstatic

Rod Serling always paid homage to his beloved Binghamton in his work, interviews etc. Shouldn’t Binghamton return the favor for its most notable resident?
