So the news has come out that a very well known race the Stewards' Cup is to be renamed the 32Red Cup in a sponsorship deal with 32Red (http://goo.gl/c9Sqhf). Now I know money from such sponsorship deals are vital for racecourses and british horseracing going forward but this should not be at the expense of a race name thats been used since the 1800's.

I ask 32Red to reconsider the renaming of the Stewards' Cup. I believe people would be more excepting if say it was called the 32Red Stewards' Cup, that way 32Red get what they need and the race remains faithful to its name. 32Red have shown it can be done after another race the Bunbury Cup was renamed the 32Red Trophy then later renamed to the 32Red Bunbury Cup.

Also previous sponsors of this race have kept the Stewards' Cup within the name. I don't see why 32Red can't do the same?

As for the BHA I'd like to see races like these be protected in some way to ensure the history and integrity of the race name is kept almost intact. I'm not a hater of change, we all change but current/future sponsors need to understand the importance and history of these races.

I hope by doing this petition it will convince 32Red into reconsidering using the 32Red Cup name.
