We the business owners, property owners, and employees of the University Avenue corridor would like to petition the City Council and Mayor of Cedar Falls, IA to reconsider their design of University Avenue.

There are various reasons forour disapprovalof the current plan, but here are just a few major points.

1. We feel the size of the road and the round abouts will limit or cause hazards with our delivery vehicles. Most of ourdeliveries are by semi tractor trailers. While these vehicles can operate safely ina two lane round about, there can be no other traffic in the round about at the same time. This willobviously slow other traffic and reduce the timing aspectsthat your studies were based on. Thiswillalso cause great peril to anyone that is not aware of the size limits of vehiclesin the round about. No education program willreachall of the visitors that come from outside of our community.Businesses between Cedar Heights and Waterloo Road that require Semi delivery may require a little more room than two lanes to get into there facilities.

2. We feel that by closing down the frontage roads certainbusinesses could have issues with their parking lots being utilized as a through street and creating hazards for the employees and customers.

3. We also feelthat demolishing a business that has been place for decades is a huge mistake. It sends a message to eachone of us that ourland, business, and livelihood is notof greatinterestto our city government.

There aremore reasons as to why we do not appreciate this plan, these arejust some of the major issues we have. We would request that you as a mayor and council persons review the decisions that you have made. We allknow that this has been a long process and everyone of uslook forward to have University Avenue being completed. If it has taken 9 years to get to this point we shouldtake a little longer than2 weeks from showingtherecommended design to council approval.Wewould like tosee one of the 6 council persons that voted for the approval of thisdesign bring the issues back up for a vote. At that time it would be in everyone's best interest to table the vote until you have truly worked withthe community that you serve.2-4 monthsextra will not have that much of an impact on a plan that has been going on for 9 months.

Thank you for your time and we look forward to working with our elected leaders.
