Reconsider Paraprofessional Pay in WFISD — Recognize Degrees and Experience
Paraprofessionals are an essential part of the WFISD educational community. We work directly with students every day—supporting instruction, managing behavior, providing special education services, and helping maintain safe, productive learning environments. Our roles require professionalism, training, and a deep commitment to student success.
Currently, WFISD does not provide additional compensation for paraprofessionals who hold a college degree. Many paraprofessionals have earned associate’s or bachelor’s degrees and continue to pursue certification pathways, yet their educational attainment is not reflected in their pay. This policy makes it difficult to recruit, retain, and value highly qualified staff who are already serving our district.
We respectfully ask the WFISD Board of Trustees to reconsider and revisit paraprofessional compensation, with specific attention to:
- Paraprofessionals who hold college degrees
- Years of experience and specialized roles (such as SPED and behavior support)
- Pay equity and competitive wages compared to surrounding districts
Revisiting paraprofessional pay is not only an investment in staff—it is an investment in students, classrooms, and the long-term success of WFISD. Recognizing education and experience promotes retention, morale, and professional growth within the district.
By signing this petition, WFISD employees show support for opening a conversation and reviewing current compensation practices for paraprofessionals.
